About
I am a Berkshire based self taught artist who works primarily with charcoal and oils, creating works that explore the depths of the natural world and the human form. I work from my home based studio and refine my craft through weekly life drawing and live portrait sessions. I am drawn to the dramatic qualities of charcoal, using it to create atmospheric and dramatic landscapes and skyscapes. My technique embodies a sculptural approach, where I carve into the paper to create depth and texture. This method allows me to build the drawing tonally, with intuitive marks guiding the overall composition. Each piece emerges organically. This method enables me to stay open to the process, avoiding the constraints of fine details in favour of a more fluid, experimental approach. In addition to my landscapes, I have a deep passion for portraiture and to capture the essence of the sitter. I seek to foster a connection with my viewers, whether it's through the sweeping energy of a charcoal landscape or the quiet intensity of a portrait. I regularly exhibit in my local guild and galleries in and around London.
